The Xiuzhou district of Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province recently released its 2024 ecological environment status bulletin, outlining ecological progress and challenges.
The bulletin highlighted Xiuzhou's continued achievements in environmental protection and its commitment to a low-carbon development path.
Last year, the district recorded an 80.6 percent rate of excellent air quality days, with an average PM2.5 emissions concentration of 27.6 micrograms per cubic meter.
Overall, Xiuzhou intensified its efforts in key ecological campaigns. In terms of air quality, it completed 165 air-related emissions reduction projects, upgraded boilers, and integrated 147 business enterprises into an activated carbon management system.
In water governance, the district improved its "zero direct sewage discharge zones", constructed over 21.5 kilometers of clearwater rivers and 5.9 km of eco-buffers, and earned 16 million yuan ($2.22 million) in ecological compensation decisions — the highest in Zhejiang.
The bulletin also outlined various future strategies. These include strengthening pollution controls in industry, promoting green transitions, enhancing environmental regulations, and building a long-term governance framework.
The bulletin not only underscored Xiuzhou's environmental progress, but also reaffirmed its dedication to becoming a model for building a "Beautiful China".
