Jiashan county in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, took a significant step towards integrating its technology with ecological protection on June 4, one day ahead of World Environment Day.
The Jiashan branch of the Jiaxing municipal bureau of ecology and environment signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with the Innovation Center of Yangtze River Delta, Zhejiang University — aiming to create a model for ecological technology collaboration.
The partnership will focus on five key areas — joint research, key laboratory development, technology transformation, talent cultivation, and promoting green, low-carbon, high-quality development.
During the event, a local metals manufacturer also signed an agreement for the voluntary purchase of 194.44 metic tons of carbon emissions reductions. This marked Jiashan's first implementation of a "carbon offset for ecological restoration" model — advancing alternative methods in ecological compensation.
A keynote report on smart technology in Jiashan emphasized the region's ongoing commitment to sustainable innovation. Yang Qian, vice-director of the Jiashan branch of the Jiaxing municipal bureau of ecology and the environment, said the collaboration would attract top domestic experts, enhance research applications, and strengthen Jiashan's overall green development.
