Ode to the Waterways

The Grand Canal contains a rich history of traditional Chinese operas. Connecting the tones of the dialect in the south and the passionate songs in the north, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal fostered the integration and innovation of Chinese operas.

Along the banks of the Grand Canal, ancient towns, streets and alleys are born by the water, with commercial guilds and talented singers gathering along the banks. Various opera troupes gather here, competing brilliantly to showcase their unique charm.

With a history spanning over 2,000 years, this ancient Grand Canal retains its original simplicity. At the 10th anniversary of the Grand Canal's UNESCO status, it flowed towards a new era. The Canal nurtured traditional operas. The precious cultural heritage originated and flourished in the water. On the thousand-year canal, the bridge of culture remains steadfast. On the slender stone pathways, the lingering melodies of operas resonate through the air.
