Song Dynasty culture is featured in eight phrases, including the valiant patriotism; a scholar-bureaucrat tradition that features a strong sense of responsibility; humanistic pragmatism; an emphasis on overseas trade; elegant life aesthetics; a colourful urban lifestyle; art innovations with far-reaching influences; as well as technological advancements that are represented by the three great inventions of movable-type printing, the compass, and black gunpowder.

 

A series of books on Song Dynasty Culture has been launched recently in Zhejiang. The 8 books cover topics ranging from the political system, economy, thought, literature and art, education, science and technology, architecture to people's daily life. Each book is divided into four sections: overview, masterpieces, interpretations, and sceneries.

 

Greater efforts will be made to carry out archaeological studies and preservation work on Song Dynasty relic sites like the remains of city walls and palaces, the graveyards of well-known people during the Song Dynasty, royal kilns, Buddhist temples, as well as stone carvings.
