On June 21, more than 40 villagers gathered at the Gaoyan Village of Jingning She Autonomous County to make celebrations for the Dragon Boat Festival. 

According to the local custom of the village, people will tie mugwort leaves, hang calamus, boil eggs, drip realgar wine, and make meat dumplings with japonica rice, all of which will be distributed to the left-behind elderly people.

Before the Dragon Boat Festival, besides hanging mugwort leaves and hanging calamus upside down on the door frame, People also make japonica rice dumplings with meat wrapped in and glutinous rice alkaline dumplings.

Interestingly, the new daughter-in-law's family will make "kid dumplings" with smaller rice dumplings inside. Farmers will tie three sharp rice dumplings together to make "field dumplings", praying that the ridge of high mountain terraces will not collapse.

Hot water for cooking dumplings is sprinkled on the roads around the courtyard to repel insects and evil spirits and pray for the safety of people and livestock.
