Over 40 students and teachers from the United States visited Nanhu district, Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on July 7 to explore Chinese culture.
At the traditional-style Qieman Teahouse, the group sampled health-preserving teas infused with rose and tangerine peel, observed live tea ceremonies, and participated in traditional crafts.
The group also visited Lianfeng village in Fengqiao town on July 6, where they experienced the blend of rural tourism, culture, and ecological conservation. They joined cultural envoy Jin Wenkai for a drumming session, which ended with a joyful bilingual song performance.
"This was a fun way to connect through music, as both I and my friends love music — even in the summer heat," said Fang Ruoxi, a Chinese American college student who helped interpret for her peers. It was her first time visiting South China, and she described seeing the Red Boat on Nanhu Lake — a symbolic site in the history of China — as particularly memorable. Fang, whose family has roots in Tianjin, has studied Chinese since childhood.
The program is designed to deepen youth understanding of life sciences and foster cross-cultural connections through immersive visits, exchanges, and hands-on cultural experiences.
