The raw material of clothing derives from nature and the design of clothing is often inspired by nature. We have to protect nature and requite nature. This is the theme of a recent exhibition called "Wearable Nature: The Gain and Give of Fashion", which takes place in China National Silk Museum.

The exhibition includes a prologue and three units, which span time and space. It reexamines and discusses deeply the relations between nature and fashion from the perspective of beauty and responsibility. The three units include "Production", "Projection" and "Protection".

Fabric is the essence of clothing. Clothing in the early stages is basically of natural origin. For instance, natural fibers, herbaceous and woody plants as well as non-fibrous animal skins and bones that could not be woven are often used as the raw material for human fashion.

Apart from the raw material, the design of clothing is often inspired by nature. The wonderful nature can inspire endless imagination and fashion expression. The wonders of the natural world and the unique flowers, trees, fish, insects, and birds always fascinate designers and fabric makers. Through embroidery, brocade, and printing techniques, these live animals and plants can be reflected in textiles. With the development of textile printing and dyeing techniques, the details of the patterns have become more delicate.

Every coin has two sides. On the one hand, Fashion draws inspiration from nature. On the other hand, it causes harm to nature. In order to reduce the negative impact of the fashion industry on the environment. Many companies and designers have started to solve the environmental problems caused by fashion.
