On August 20, Taizhou Bay New Area was inaugurated. It is the sixth provincial-level new area in Zhejiang province following Qiantang New Area in Hangzhou, Qianwan New Area in Ningbo, Binhai New Area in Shaoxing, South Taihu New Area in Huzhou and Jinyi New District in Jinhua.

New mission: to play the trump card of the private economy

Taizhou Bay, the "mother bay" of Taizhou people, is an important showcase for the openness of Taizhou and even the whole Zhejiang Province. With a total area of 138.46 square kilometers, this estuary undertakes a new mission.

The construction of a new area is an important measure to drive the development of the Dawan district. In May this year, at the promotion and exchange activity of Dawan district construction site in Zhejiang Province, the relevant person in charge of the provincial development and Reform Commission said that the provincial new area is the main force in the construction of Dawan district, and Taizhou Bay New Area is the key step in the in-depth development of Dawan district Construction in Zhejiang Province.

Taizhou Bay New Area has a clear development orientation - to create a high-quality development leading area of private economy in the Yangtze River Delta. The private economy is a trump card of the development of Taizhou.

"An important mission of Taizhou Bay New Area is to promote the construction of Ningbo Taizhou Wenzhou port industrial belt. On this basis, Taizhou intends to develop northward to strengthen communication and contact with provinces and cities in the hinterland of the Yangtze River Delta," an official from Taizhou development and Reform Commission said.

Seize new opportunities: to create the dividends of a joint undertaking

With the establishment of Taizhou Bay New Area, coastal city Taizhou will usher in a new wave of development opportunities.

"At present, the solid preparation production base project cooperated with Jiaojiang district is in the stage of approval," related person in charge of Taizhou Bay New Area said.

It is understood that the solid preparation production base project with a total investment of about 3 billion yuan is the first "enclave" project in Taizhou Bay New Area. With the concept of "big sharing", it innovates the form of "enclave economy", cooperates with other counties (cities and districts) of Taizhou to develop major projects and key block construction, so as to expand new space for the development of counties (cities and districts) in Taizhou.

Taizhou Bay New Area will also inject new impetus into the industrial transformation and upgrading of Taizhou. According to statistics, by the end of 2019, there were 256 industrial enterprises in the new area, including 74 high-tech enterprises. In future planning, the proportion of high-tech enterprises will continue to increase.

It is understood that with the goal of building an advanced manufacturing leading area in southeast Zhejiang, the new area will become bigger and stronger in the two core industries of automobiles and aerospace. At the same time, we will promote the construction of UAV aviation town and other industrial parks in China and Germany.

"In addition, we will vigorously develop strategic emerging industries such as 5G and new materials, actively cultivate modern service industries such as modern logistics, software, and information services, and build Taizhou Bay New Area into a ‘mass entrepreneurship and innovation’ highland with the greatest innovation and the strongest vitality in Taizhou," related person in charge of Taizhou Bay New Area said.

Entering a new stage: to improve the level of provincial integration

As the first provincial new area in southern Zhejiang, Taizhou Bay New Area will further enhance the opening-up and provincial integration.

Lv Miao, the senior economist of the new economic development research center of the Yangtze River Delta Research Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang, believes that the establishment of the Taizhou Bay New Area is conducive to concentrating comparative advantages, strengthening the strength of opening up in Zhejiang. 

"To let the resource flow smoothly in the market is the key to seek high-quality development. To fully release this dividend, we must avoid cross-regional industrial homogenization." Huang Xianhai, Dean of the School of Economics of Zhejiang University, said that the rational distribution of industries in the province is an important part of the development of provincial integration, and it is crucial to enhance the competitiveness of provincial development.
