The Chinese government adopted a strategy of "One Belt One Road" (OBOR), also known as the "Belt and Road Initiative in 2013. This “OBOR” strategy mainly focuses on the connectivity and cooperation among countries in Eurasia and some African countries. With the official release by the Chinese State Council of the "Vision and Actions" of the OBOR in March 2015, this ambitious strategy has drawn tremendous attention from both within and outside China.

The series of books that are entitled "Essentials of the laws of the Belt and Road Countries" is a must-to-read for book lovers and readers who are interested in the Belt and Road Initiative. The books are authored by Priscilla Leung Mei-fun, a famous Hong Kong Legislative Councillor.

As there are more than 80 countries involved in the OBOR, the books will be published on stages. In the first stage, there shall be some key countries and an introduction to each of their laws to be published in the first batch.

The authors were provided with terms of reference for the chapter construction. Each country study would begin with an overview of its legal system relating to Cross-border commercial transactions. The substantive parts of each chapter deal with customs system, foreign trade law, law on foreign direct investment, monetary and banking law, laws relating to construction and infrastructure, labor-management and treatment, environment and dispute resolution—both judicial and non- judicial(ADR).
