A 90-second animated video of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games that features characters from traditional Chinese New Year paintings recently went viral on the internet, local media outlets reported.

 

Netizens were enchanted by the video's ingenious combination of winter sports and traditional Chinese characters, emphasizing their own unique characteristics and placing them alongside a wide range of sporting venues and cultural elements, including Chinese zodiac, New Year paintings, Peking Opera, ink-and-wash paintings, and calligraphy.

 

2. Huzhou ranks the first in the provincial zero-waste city construction


Recently, Zhejiang government officials released the zero-waste index of 76.4 in 2021, which increased steadily compared with 76.17 in the last quarter of November. Among the prefecture-level cities in Zhejiang, Huzhou, Hangzhou and Wenzhou top the first three in terms of the zero-waste city construction.

 

Huzhou saw a 3.05 percent year-on-year decrease in household waste this year to date. This is the third year in a row that it has reported a decline. The daily amount of recycled garbage in Huzhou has surpassed 600 tons, with a recycling rate standing at 61.6 percent.

 

3. Hangzhou to see a total of 230 high schools in 2035


On February 15, Hangzhou announced the layout plan of high schools during the period of 2021 to 2035, which referred that the total number of high schools in the city will reach 230 by 2035 and hold 434,000 students.

 

The plan is formulated to promote Hangzhou's high-quality development, meet the higher standard of education needs of Hangzhou citizens, and promote the optimization of the layout of high schools in Hangzhou.

 

4. Poetic West Lake in the snow scenery


On Feb 17, Hangzhou witnessed the third snowfall in the year of 2022. The West Lake scenic spot was covered with white snow, which looks like a picturesque landscape painting full of poetry.

 

5. Zhejiang advances common prosperity in civil affairs


On Feb 15, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Civil Affairs held a work conference to describe how common prosperity was pursued in the province's civil affairs over the past year.

 

The province's registered population facing financial difficulties stood at 788,500 at the end of 2021. The government subsidy to help those in need is 10,632 yuan ($1,678) per person per year, higher than that in any other province in China. As of the end of 2021, Zhejiang was home to 1,251 registered charitable organizations, the second-highest among all provincial-level regions.
