When speaking of Wenzhou locals' favorite home-cooked dish, fish dishes must be on the list. For Wenzhou people, there is one more reason why they like to eat fish is that because the word "fish" (in Chinese Pinyin: Yu) has homophony with the Chinese character "余" (also in Chinese Pinyin: Yu). And the Chinese idiom "年年有余" means life gets better year by year. So, fish is an auspicious sign in Chinese culture.

Fish cake is a Wenzhou special snack. Taking fresh sea fishes such as brown croaker and mackerel from the East China Sea as the main raw materials and matching with unique seasonings, it is crafted by adopting traditional recipes and advanced techniques. Wenzhou fish cake is characteristic of its tender texture, delicate flavor, not-fishy taste, low-in-fat, and rich-in-nutrient. You can enjoy the deliciousness of fish without the trouble of deboning. It is deeply loved by everyone.

Alex said that he was afraid of fish bones, so he didn't eat fish very much in Wenzhou. However, he slowly fell in love with this delicious Wenzhou food - fish cake, which is free of fish bones and tastes tender and soft. In this episode, based on Alex's proposal, we focused the camera on Wenzhou's characteristic fish cake.

The filming location of this video is the Shuangjingtou Wet Market in Wenzhou Urban District. During the filming, Alex said that he saw the golden fish cakes for the first time here. In Wenzhou, he usually eats white fish cakes.

Faced with Alex’s question, the shop owner said that fish cakes are generally white. However, considering that some clients have a preference for hot and salty taste, they will deep-fry the fish cakes to make the skin more crispy.
