1. Xi-Biden meeting: 'Thorough, in-depth' talks conducted on Taiwan question, trade, climate change

 

China and the U.S. agreed to continue to maintain close contact through various means and bring bilateral relations back to the right track of sound and steady development in a virtual meeting between the two heads of state on Tuesday.

 

The meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden was "candid, constructive, substantive and productive," and major topics of concern including the Taiwan question, trade, and climate change topped the agenda.

 

2. 2021 WTO world trade report calls for increased economic resilience

 

The World Trade Organization (WTO) called on Tuesday for increased economic resilience by unwinding trade integration, as well as more regional and multilateral cooperation. 

 

The body made the appeal in a new world trade report that examined vulnerabilities and resilience in global trade. The report noted that today's hyper-connected global economy has made the world simultaneously more vulnerable and resilient to shocks.

 

3. Pfizer asks U.S. government to authorize COVID-19 pill

 

U.S. pharmaceutical giant Pfizer on Tuesday asked regulators to grant emergency use authorization (EUA) for its COVID-19 pill, after it was shown to cut hospitalization and death by nearly 90 percent among newly infected high-risk patients.

 

A panel of outside advisers to the FDA will meet to consider the application on November 30, according to Reuters.

 

4. China-Africa trade hits record $185 billion in first 9 months

 

China-Africa trade reached $185.2 billion from January to September 2021, up 38.2% year on year and establishing a new record for the period, Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Qian Keming said on Wednesday. 

 

5. Putin, Macron discuss the migrant crisis, Ukraine by phone

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone call with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to discuss the migrant crisis on the borders between Belarus and the European Union (EU) as well as the situation in east Ukraine.

 

According to a Kremlin statement, Putin noted "the extremely harsh treatment of refugees by Polish border guards" and informed Macron of his recent contacts with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on the migrant crisis.

 

6. Xi Focus: Xi's explanation on CPC landmark resolution released

 

An explanatory address delivered by Xi Jinping on a landmark resolution on the major achievements and historical experience of the Communist Party of China (CPC) over the past century was made public Tuesday.

 

Entrusted by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Xi, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, delivered the speech to the sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.

 

The resolution was deliberated and approved at the plenum held in Beijing from Nov. 8 to 11.

 

7. China's free trade port unveils opening-up plan

 

South China's Hainan Province plans to lock in three sectors, including duty-free shopping, international medical care and international education, in its drive to become an international tourism and consumption destination, according to its 2021-2025 development plan. 

 

The island province is a free trade port. The plan recently published sets the target for tourism to contribute to 17.8 percent of the province's total economic growth by 2025. 

 

8.China-U.S. cross-border e-commerce trade and investment forum

 

A China-U.S., cross-border e-commerce forum was held on Monday, to try to find solutions to the global supply chain crunch.

 

The forum was hosted by the New York branch of the China Construction Bank, and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. 

 

There’s been a rising demand for exports from China as economies reopen, but the flow of goods is hampered by worker and transport shortages, in receiving countries.

 

9. China hold Australia to 1-1 draw in FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers

 

Chinese star striker Wu Lei converted a late penalty to help his team hold Australia to a 1-1 draw in the final round of 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.


China now sits 5th in Group B with 5 points, while Australia ranks 3rd with 11. Group leaders Saudi Arabia have pocketed 16 points, three from their most recent 1-0 victory against Vietnam

 

10. Zhou Guanyu becomes first Chinese driver to race in F1 with Alfa Romeo Racing

 

Formula 1 will embrace its first Chinese racer, Zhou Guanyu, who will drive for Alfa Romeo Racing in 2022. 

 

Zhou will race alongside teammate Valtteri Bottas, the former Mercedes racer who has clinched multiple podium prizes.
