Jiaxing is located along the southeast coast of China, the center of the Yangtze River Delta. Its east is near to Shanghai, its north is adjacent to Suzhou, its west is near to Hangzhou, and its south borders on Hangzhou Bay. 

It covers a land area of 3,915 km2 and has a population of 3.3807 million among which 2,560 km2 is an urban area with 2.134 million residents. The jurisdiction of Jiaxing city encompasses two districts (Nanhu and Xiuzhou), three county-level cities (Pinghu, Haining, and Tongxiang), and two counties (Jiashan and Haiyan).

Jiaxing has a long history with splendid culture. It is the birthplace of Jiangnan culture. As early as six or seven thousand years ago, our ancestors cultivated Majiabang Culture which is representative of the early Neolithic culture in the Taihu Lake region of lower reaches of the Yangtze River and which is one of the sources of the ancient Chinese civilization.

There are numerous celebrates from Jiaxing in successive dynasties. Only in modern times Masters like the literary master Mao Dun, the master of aesthetics Wang Guowei, the great poet Hsu Chih-mo, the cartoonists Feng Zikai and Zhang Leping, the famous mathematician Chen Xingshen, the master of emprise novels Jin Yong, etc. appeared.

Jiaxing is in the East Asia monsoon region with summer and winter monsoon alter. It has plentiful rainfalls and ample sunshine with a modest temperature of 15.9 Ì on average annually. The climate here is with the feature of “moist spring, hot summer, arid autumn, and cold winter”.

Because the city is located in the mid-latitudes, the moist and rainy days in summer are less than dry and cold time in winter. The total rainfall is 1188.00 mm per recent year.

Jiaxing has always been a land of prosperity. It is known as the “Land of Fish and Rice, the Home of Silk”. Since the founding of the PRC, especially since the reform and opening, Jiaxing was influenced by the development of the Shanghai Pudong, open economy in southern Jiangsu, and private economy in southern Zhejiang. It has achieved good and fast economic and social development, and significant overall strength increase and the counties (cities) in Jiaxing have all entered the top 100 in China.
