The history of Huangyan District Library can be traced to the Jiufeng Academy of Classical Learning established by the county magistrate Sun Xi in Jiufeng Temple in 1869 during the reign of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty. The academy was renamed as Huangyan County Library in 1912 and was officially founded on June 15, 1965. 


The current building built in 1990 covers an area of 1,000 square meters providing 200 seats to readers and offering a collection of 160,000 books, among which 42,000 volumes are ancient books including a set of Wanyou Library during the Republic of China (1912-1949) and a process plate Complete Library in Four Treasures. 


In recent years, Huangyan District Library has seen an improvement in the quality of services facilitated by the big data and internet technologies, which enriches the academy and the service spirit of the public services.
