Located in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, Jiaxing Nanhu Airport is the first dedicated air cargo hub in the Yangtze River Delta region.
Major construction was completed in July, when the airport also carried out trial flights, with industry inspection and acceptance scheduled for September. Operations are expected to begin by the end of the year.
Listed as one of Zhejiang's top 10 landmark projects, the airport features a 3,400-meter runway and 56 cargo stands, including 38 dedicated cargo positions. It is designed as an international cargo hub, integrated with multimodal transport via road, rail, water, and air.
With direct links to highways, railways, and the Grand Canal, the hub will connect with the planned Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High-speed Railway's Shengze Station via an "airport avenue". This will allow Suzhou in Jiangsu province to become part of the cargo network through Jiaxing. The airport has also partnered with YTO Express to establish a specialized operation model for international freight.
The project targets high-value industries such as electronics, biomedicine, and integrated circuits, and also aims to support local textile towns like Honghe and Puyuan in reaching overseas markets more efficiently.
By 2035, the airport is projected to handle 4 million passengers and 1.23 million metric tons of cargo and mail annually. Located in the economic core of the Yangtze River Delta region, the hub is expected to enhance regional logistics efficiency, lower costs, and serve as a fast track for manufacturing exports.
