Hangzhou's Xiaoshan district will host the prestigious 2024 Chinese Footballer of the Year Awards this February, marking the first time the event lands in the city.
Since its inception in 2017, the awards have highlighted the best in Chinese football, with winners selected by over 100 domestic media outlets, invited experts, and international journalists. The event aims to set benchmarks for the sport and inspire the next generation of players.
On March 25, Hangzhou will also host a critical World Cup qualifier as China takes on Australia in the Asian Football Confederation's final 18-round competition at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center — a key matchup on China's road to World Cup 2026.
Xiaoshan has emerged as a true soccer hotspot, hosting seven international events, 20 top-tier domestic tournaments, and over 100 regional matches in 2024, drawing more than one million fans to live games.
