On July 6, a cultural event on the theme of Sino-Greek exchange with the title called "Liangzhu and the World, Sino-Greek Civilization Dialogue Activity" (hereinafter referred to as "The Event") kicked off in Yuhang District of Hangzhou, the capital of East China's Zhejiang Province.

Civilizations need dialogues to deepen the mutual understanding between each other. Only by enabling different civilizations to develop on an equal footing and learn from each other can the dreams of the world resonate together. "The Event" held in Hangzhou aims at deepening the cultural exchanges and mutual learning, constantly improving the level of cultural cooperation between China and Greek, and jointly expanding the road of human civilization and progress.

Georgios Partheniou, Consul General of Greece in Shanghai, said that the Ancient City of Liangzhu and the Acropolis of Athens both embody the belief systems and models of urban civilization, and they can also form the basis for constructive comparative analysis and research on the multi-dimensional cultural world. This provides unique benefits for both sides in terms of deeper understanding, exchange and sharing of cultural insights on the Greek and Chinese civilizations. In addition, like cultural exchanges, cooperation between Greece and China has covered a wide range of fields, and the two countries have always been in the spirit of mutual understanding and common growth.

Yang Jianwu, director of Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage, said that the dialogue will leave a strong mark on the historical track of the development of civilization between the two countries, further promote exchanges and mutual learning and cooperation, and mutual trust between the two sides, and build a bridge and bond of people-to-people exchanges.

Prokopios Pavlopoulos, former president of Greece and professor of Law at the University of Athens, said in a video greeting at the opening ceremony that the most important and solid support between civilizations is the dialogue. Both Greece and China are ancient civilizations with thousands of years of history, and how the two countries contribute to consolidating world peace and protecting human beings and their rights may be best answered through dialogues among civilizations.

"The Event" will last for two days. A photo exhibition titled "Chiselling and Memory - The Contribution of Marble Techniques to the Restoration of Acropolis Monuments", with the theme of cultural relic conservation and restoration will also be on display at Liangzhu Museum from July 5 to 12, followed by an exhibition at Liangzhu Ancient City Site Park from July 14 to October 14.
