Following a preliminary press conference at the China National Silk Museum, Silk Road Week 2023 will kick off on July 12. This weeklong initiative was first established by the Chinese cultural heritage community to mark and celebrate the anniversary of the nomination of the Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang’an-Tianshan Corridor as a UNESCO World Heritage site on June 2014.

The theme for the 2023 edition of Silk Road Week will be ‘The Silk Roads: Long Roads & Mutual Goals’. The programme of events taking place in Hangzhou and beyond includes themed exhibitions, themed courses, academic seminars, lectures, online and offline events, and so forth. This year, Hungary is invited as the guest country.

Themed exhibition on 'Silk Robes for Princes Luxury Silks and Velvets from Hungary's Esterházy Treasury: 16th and 17th Century Aristocratic Textiles from the Collection of the Museum of Applied Arts, Budapest'

A grand themed exhibition on the 'Silk Robes for Princes Luxury Silks and Velvets from Hungary's Esterházy Treasury: 16th and 17th Century Aristocratic Textiles from the Collection of the Museum of Applied Arts, Budapest' will be unveiled to the public at the Textile Conservation Gallery of China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou. The exhibition borrowed 34 pieces and sets of exquisite cultural relics from the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest, Hungary, with silk clothing, home accessories, ceremonial items and other cultural relics in the treasure house of the most influential Esterházy family in Hungary as the main line, showing the historical context, culture, art and life of Hungary's famous family, and demonstrating the dialogue between the civilizations of China and Hungary under the "Belt and Road" initiative.

Another grand-themed exhibition is the one focusing on Dunhuang. With Dunhuang historical relics as the carrier, the exhibition showcases the important role of Dunhuang as a stronghold at the throat of the Silk Roads and shows the exchanges and mutual learning between Eastern and Western civilizations along the Silk Roads.

A series of online and offline events will be held during the 2023 Silk Road Week. Users across the globe may engage in the events with the hashtag #2023SilkRoadWeek on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and so forth.
