Zhejiang's permanent resident population increases by 720,000 in 2021

The Zhejiang Bureau of Statistics released the province's latest demographic data on Feb 22.

 

As of the end of 2021, Zhejiang's permanent resident population was 65.4 million, up from 64.68 million in the end of 2020, an increase of 720,000.

 

The urbanization rate, or the proportion of urbanites in the province's permanent resident population, stood at 72.7 percent at the end of 2021, up 0.5 percentage points from the year before.

 

The male to female ratio was 109.5. The proportion of senior residents aged above 60 years was 19.1 percent, up 0.4 percentage points from the year before. The proportion of residents aged between 16 and 60 years stood at 66.8 percent, down 0.2 percentage points from the year before.

 

A total of 449,000 permanent residents were born in Zhejiang in 2021, while 384,000 died that same year. The birth rate dropped by 0.023 percent while the death rate rose by 0.006 percent from the year before.
