Six Zhejiang cities nominated as national innovative cities

Recently, a report of innovation capacity evaluation on national innovative cities in 2021 was released by the Ministry of Science and Technology, indicating that six Zhejiang cities have been selected as national innovative cities and Hangzhou ranks 2nd and Ningbo ranks 15th. The other four Zhejiang cities include Jiaxing, Huzhou, Shaoxing and Jinhua ranking 22nd, 30th, 39th, and 41st respectively.

 

The top 10 national innovative cities of this year are Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuhan, Xi’an, Changsha, Hefei and Qingdao.

 

An innovative city is defined as a city with strong innovation capacity and demonstrative influences, and actively promotes and highlights the role of knowledge-intensiveness and technological advancement at the national level.

 

Over the years, Zhejiang has vigorously promoted science and technology innovation and taken the lead to implement the “first strategy” driven by talents and innovation, backed up by the construction of the "Internet +", life and health, new materials. Besides, Zhejiang won 38 national science awards, a record high in the 2020 State Science and Technology Awards.

 

Meanwhile, innovation also plays a more and more important role in development. As of 2021, Hangzhou is home to 10,000 national high-tech enterprises and 20,000 provincial science and technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises.

 

Innovation is the primary driving force for Zhejiang's development. It’s of great significance to build common prosperity demonstrative zone in high quality and ensure better development in the future.
