Chinese seal engraving art, represented by the Xiling Seal Engravers Society, was selected to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. As the oldest and most influential among China’s civic associations in the field of sigillography and iconic cultural elements in Hangzhou, the Xiling Seal Engravers Society has organized the seal engraving arts exhibition to celebrate the 300-day countdown of the Hangzhou Asian Games.

In the exhibition, 74 engraving items designed by the renowned seal engravers from the society were on display, covering the contents ranging from the slogans of previous Asian Games to 40 competition items of Hangzhou Asian Games, giving a full play of the artistic techniques of Chinese sigillography. The objectives and purposes of Hangzhou 2022 emphasize Chinese characteristics, Zhejiang style, and Hangzhou flavor, of which three add radiance and beauty to each other. By exerting their expertise and talents in engraving, these artists fully demonstrated the charm of combining the themes of engraving arts and sports to highlight harmony of strength and beauty.

Cheng Mo, the director of Xiling Seal Engravers Society, introduced his work of 2002 Asian Games in Korea themed on “Hope and Transcendence, the New Asia”, pointing out that the core sprits of engraving arts actually coincide with the sprits of sports and competition, both of which need to keep perseverance and pursue excellence. They are the common spiritual legacy and demonstration of the positive attitude to create a better life for people. 

Apart from the art exhibition, the new music video focusing on the spirits of volunteers “Waiting for You”, was released globally and launched on all platforms. The famous singer, internet influencers, sports athletes, together with the group of volunteers were invited to act in the video, expressing the enthusiasm of full commitment to the volunteering work and determination to be open-minded and embrace the whole world. Besides, the idea-collection of lighting of the cauldron in the opening ceremony of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games was initiated on the internet to welcome massive creative ideas from the netizen.

In the interview, Cheng Weiqiang, the vice mayor of Hangzhou called for more people to support and engage in preparing Hangzhou Asian Games and to create a more active and cheerful social atmosphere in celebrating the upcoming 2022 Asian Games.
