China, Singapore and Japan still lead the 2nd issue of Global COVID-19 Resilience Ranking

China, Singapore and Japan are still evaluated as the top 3 countries in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic as the second issue of Tianmu Global COVID-19 Resilience Ranking was released on Aug 23.


Compared to the first issue of the ranking released on Aug 13, the top 3 countries remained unchanged while Denmark climbed two ranks to the fourth and New Zealand rose to the sixth.


Canada dropped four places to the eighth as newly reported confirmed cases and deaths surged in the past 10 days. The US still stays at 22nd.


After the first issue's release, discussions were high among netizens around the world and experts in public health.


Li Lanjuan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and expert from the National Health Commission, said that the ranking is objective and tells the truth.


"In indicators the ranking chose are key indexes in evaluating overall performance in fights against the pandemic," she said.


The ranking was released by Tianmu News, a leading media outlet based in Zhejiang Province of East China, to provide a scientific, objective, and fair system to evaluate different regions' comprehensive performance in fighting against and recovering from the pandemic.


It picks the top 50 economies in terms of annual GDP as statistical samples.


The ranking will be updated once a week.
