July 1st, 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Under the leadership of the CPC, China is committed to an independent foreign policy of peace and a path of peaceful development, unswervingly follows a win-win strategy of opening-up. How do people in China view the CPC? How do expats in China view the progress of CPC?

Neli Akhobadze, a Georgian student from Zhejiang University, is studying "Modern and Contemporary Chinese History". Recently, she produced a video referring to the period from 1840-1949, during which time the Chinese people suffered from hunger and poverty and the nation from backwardness and subjugation. What was China like 100 years ago? How did the Chinese save their country? When did the major turning point occur? With these questions in mind, Neli visited Jiaxing, a city that occupies an important position in Chinese history.

After the video was posted on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms, it sparked a flood of comments, with many sayings, such as:

"It's a great video to share your real experiences and feelings about China!"

"It’s really a good video to represent China to the world."

"Thanks for showing the real China!!! Such a great video!"

...

During the interview with "In Zhejiang", Neli said that she has been studying in China for four years. She said that she chose modern Chinese history as her research direction because of her love for Chinese culture. In her spare time, Neli often posts articles or videos on the Internet, telling what she has seen and heard in China.

Why do you want to make a Vlog with the theme of the Red Boat? Neli said that the founding of the Communist Party of China is a very important part of her research on modern history, and the century of changes in China is also a fascinating topic, so she wanted to introduce this piece of history to the people in her hometown and overseas.

Looking back on her trip to Nanhu or the South Lake in Jiaxing City, Neli said there was nothing special about seeing the Red Boat, an antique wooden boat, but the history behind it. "I know China is a big country with a civilization of thousands of years, but I didn't expect that China would encounter so many twists and turns in modern times."

Wearing a red dress on the lake tour, the Georgian girl attracted the attention of many tourists. She also took the opportunity to talk with many young people and found that they are very energetic and have a strong willingness of contributing to society and building up the motherland.

"I didn't know anything about Chinese people before I studied abroad, and I even thought Chinese people still wore pigtails from the Qing Dynasty," Neli said, adding that she kept her observations of China up to date. "Before coming to Hangzhou, I thought it was just a small town, but then I was completely shocked. Hangzhou is a huge, cosmopolitan city."

"Maybe you have many opinions about China, but in my opinion, if you don't know China's past, you can't understand China's present." This is what Neli says in the video.

Living and studying in Zhejiang, Neli loves the natural and cultural scenery here. "I live in Hangzhou and have been to Ningbo and Yiwu," she said, "I think both cities and villages in Zhejiang are beautiful and rich. I hope to record more of my China stories in the future."
