On July 15, the traffic police of the Hangzhou Public Security Bureau organized a press briefing to introduce and promote the use of the "Traffic Safety Code" (hereinafter referred to as "Code") to the audience and the public.

The newly-released "Traffic Safety Code" is inspired from the "Hangzhou Health Code", employing big data platforms such as Hangzhou City Brain to evaluate the behaviors of traffic participants (including motor vehicle and non-motor vehicle drivers) from three dimensions - traffic accidents, key traffic violations, and roles, based upon an integral digital form. After that, the traffic participants will be assigned a "red" code, a "yellow" code, or a "green" code, correspondingly.

What does the "Traffic Safety Code" mean to the public?

The green code with a score of less than 50 indicates the low-risk level of traffic safety; the yellow code with a score of more than 50 and less than 80 represents the medium-level risk level of traffic safety, and the red code with a score of more than 80 represents the high-risk level of traffic safety. In addition, if a motor vehicle driver’s license state is abnormal (such as overscore, overdue, cancellation, etc.), it will be given a "gray code", which means that the driver does not have the qualification to continue driving motor vehicles anymore.

Drivers with a "red" code or a "yellow code" will need to update their knowledge about traffic safety, or be a traffic safety volunteer, or promote traffic safety knowledge to raise public awareness at the local traffic police stations or traffic safety stations in Hangzhou, in order to reduce their points.

At the same time, if there will be no traffic violations and traffic accidents within a certain period, and the risk level can be reduced according to the duration. "Grey code" motor vehicle drivers need to eliminate the abnormal status of driving license in accordance with laws and regulations before they can obtain the qualification to continue driving motor vehicles.

At present, the "Code" now covers around 8.8 million drivers in Hangzhou, and has achieved the scenario of "one person with one code, with a mechanism of dynamic coloring". For drivers, by checking with their electronic driving license, they can get access to information about accidents, violations, and their "security code” information in real-time.
