Confirmed COVID-19 cases across the globe have exceeded 60 million, with over 1.4 million fatalities and more than 38.4 million recoveries, according to the latest tally from Johns Hopkins University.

Here is the latest:

The Chinese mainland on Wednesday recorded 21 new cases, including nine locally transmitted in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The U.S. now has over 12.7 million COVID-19 cases with over 261,000 fatalities, both the highest in the world.

Germany will extend its current coronavirus restrictions through early January unless there is a dramatic drop in infections, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Wednesday.
