Recently, China Information and Communication Research Institute formed a mobile network quality assessment team, which tested 4G/5G network quality in China's 14 key 5G demonstration cities (except for Beijing and Shanghai), and released the "2020 top ten key places mobile network quality assessment ranking". The ranking selected the best 5G network rate city, 5G independent network best city, and 5G network coverage of the best city from the participant cities.

Among them, Hangzhou was awarded for "the city of best 5G network coverage." In the network coverage ratio, Hangzhou has become the "top city of 5G " with authoritative endorsement. And titles of “the city of fastest 5G network rate”, “the city of best 5G independent network” are given to Lanzhou and Shenzhen respectively.

Reporters learned that the evaluation covers the key application scenarios of 5G including subway, airport, high-speed rail, schools, medical institutions, as well as high-density residential and commercial buildings, and so on. The criteria of 5G network evaluation, including network coverage, data rate, cloud gaming experience (university city group), is designed as a set of more than 20 typical indicators.

The results show that in Hangzhou, the 5G network coverage of the East Road around the city is the highest at 99.89 percent, while the highest 5G residence time of 100 percent is recorded in Huaqiang North of Shenzhen (all SA groups); furthermore, the highest 5G comprehensive download rate appeared on Reader’s Avenue in Lanzhou (994.34Mbps), and the highest 5G comprehensive upload rate, which is detected on Luzhou Avenue, Hefei city, is 142.88Mbps.

Overall, 5G network "download rate" in many cities has exceeded Gigabit, including Hangzhou, including the first echelon (Shenzhen, Lanzhou, Chengdu, etc.), the highest 5G network download speed is even close to 1.2Gbps; in terms of upload rate experience, the difference between cities is relatively noticeable. Hangzhou’s 5G network is on average level.

"This year's 5G test results are still very good overall." Wang Zhiqin, vice president of the China Information and Communication Research Institute, said the 5G gigabit city test has established a relatively complete system, and the results partly reflect the general situation of the construction of 4G and 5G networks in these cities. This ranking is designed to assess the level of mobile network development across the country and improve mobile network quality, user experience, and satisfaction through effective regulatory means.

Operators are the main force in the construction of 5G Gigabit City. Recently, Zhejiang Mobile officially announced that it would take the lead in opening 5G independent network scale applications. As early as in 2019, Zhejiang Mobile had already released the world's first independently controlled 5G independent network cloud network and was the first to achieve a four-city 5G independent network scale commercial capacity in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, and Jiaxing. This time, Zhejiang Mobile is even the first to launch the 5G independent network scale application, becoming the first province in China Mobile to have the commercial capability of 5G independent network.

According to Zhejiang Mobile staff, Zhejiang Mobile has built 33,000 5G independent network base stations in the province, taking the lead in completing the world's first 4/5G core network fusion network, and its cumulative number of active users has exceeded 200,000.

"On the basis of building the world's largest commercial 5G independent network, we will further achieve the goal of 'quality first, technology first, operation first', build the top city of 5G independent network, and comprehensively contribute to the landing of 'network power' 'digital China' 'smart society' major strategy." Zheng Jie, general manager of Zhejiang Mobile, said.
