On September 14, 2020, two research groups led by Li Lanjuan from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University and Li Sai from Tsinghua University respectively, published an academic article entitled "Molecular architecture of the SARS-CoV-2 virus" on the well-known journal "Cell", making themselves the first group of people who have spotted the three-dimensional fine structures of the virus.

In addition, the natural configuration and distribution characteristics of spike protein as well as the structure and molecular assembly mechanism of the ribonucleoprotein complex of the virus were also revealed in detail, which is of great significance for further understanding of the biological characteristics of COVID-19, vaccine design, and antiviral drug development.

The contributors for this article include Yao Hangping, Wu Nanping, Song Yutong, Chen Yong, Xu Jialu, Academician Li Lanjuan, and Li Sai from Tsinghua University.
