Children from more than 20 countries such as Italy, France, and the Netherlands watched a live show of Ou Opera staged by Fang Ru, the winner of the Plum Blossom Prize, and had a live engagement with their fellow peers based in Rui’an, Wencheng and other districts of Wenzhou. This event has attracted a total of 150,000 views across the globe.

Zheng Xuan, a senior high school student, said that assistance from his hometown enables him to continue his study during the COVID-19 period. When mentioning the online "summer camp", he said that he held high expectations for this interesting online event, and he was willing to learn more about the local history and folklore of the Wenzhou city.
There are about 700,000 Wenzhou people either doing business or living in 131 countries and districts. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, a number of schools in Europe have been closed. Children of overseas Chinese are also facing the same situation.
In the face of such a problem, the Chinese Language School of Rome, Italy turned to its hometown for help. Wenzhou Daily, as the main portal connecting home Wenzhou people and their overseas fellows, has launched online classes that can with the help of live-streaming and video recordings, so as to help overseas Chinese kids to continue their study.
Since its launch on March 14, the online classes have rapidly expanded to four overseas communication bases in Wencheng, Lucheng, Ouhai, and Rui’an districts of Wenzhou. So far, over 200 classes have been released, which have greatly benefited more than 700,000 overseas Chinese kids in 11 countries.
In this year’s summer vacation, the model of an online classroom has been upgraded with the introduction of an online "summer camp". The summer camp was launched based upon the cloud classroom of the Silicon Valley college of Wenzhou Daily and its live studio on Tencent and TikTok.
This summer camp includes five live-streaming sessions on cultural endorsement, and five online lectures with the theme of “This is Wenzhou”, both of which are featured in Wenzhou cultural elements. In terms of the cultural endorsement session, inheritors and technicians who are experts of Wenzhou’s intangible cultural heritages will be invited for a live performance.
For the “This is Wenzhou” session, high-profile experts will show up. For instance, Jin Chenghao, a journalist veteran of Wenzhou Daily Group, will bring a sharing class with the Wenzhou dialect. What is worth mentioning is that the 80s and 90s young people will also join this event with their interesting local stories.
