From the appearance, Zhu Zicheng is no different from children of the same age. However, he was diagnosed with mental retardation when he was a child, and Zhu's mother was desperate when she heard the diagnosis.

But they didn't bow to fate.

To train her son's physical mechanics, Zhu's mother trained her son herself and gradually discovered his athletic talent. Today, 24-year-old Zhu Zicheng is a Special Olympics athlete.

On June 20, 1996, Zhu was born in a hospital in Hangzhou. He suffered a period of hypoxia and suffocation when he was born.

As Zhu grew up, his parents found he can’t stand as other children did.

The family took him to seek medical treatment everywhere. "An expert said that our child suffers from hydrocephalus and may not walk in the future."

Zhu's parents were almost heartbroken, but they decided to do their best to bring up their children.

The couple spared no efforts to take care of Zhu. The child is mentally retarded and must be watched at all times. So Zhu’s father took a long sick leave from his company and became a "full-time father".

The community and the park nearby were Zhu’s training ground. When Zhu fell down, cried, and wanted his mother to hold him, his mother refused. So Zhu wiped his tears and continue practicing walking.

Maybe due to the high-intensity training every day, Zhu got gradually interested in sports. "We took him to the primary school around the community and he saw other children playing basketball. He couldn't help trying it."

Every evening, Zhu’s parents would take him to school to practice playing basketball.

During his studies in a special school, Zhu also showed his athletic talent and participated in various sports activities. “Marathon, orienteering, Special Olympics … As long as conditions permit, he will sign up for the event."

In the summer of 2016, Zhu won the first place in shooting and the second in track and field in Wenzhou Special Olympics and then won the first place in shooting and the second place in men's goal passing at the 2017 Shandong Special Olympics.

Zhu’s mother said that when her son graduated from a special school in 2012, the whole family had been vast and hazy.

Fortunately, the Wanwan Care Center in Jianggan District accepted Zhu. "Under the guidance of the teachers, my son learned how to take care of himself. Now he can take the bus from home to the center independently."

On May 8, 2016, Mother's Day, Zhu’s mother received an unexpected "gift". "My son went to work. He had his first job and his first salary card in his life."

Later, Zhu and his friends traveled to Beijing and Shanghai together.

In his mother’s opinion, that her son works with other classmates in the car wash shop expands his circle of friends and he gradually fits in to society. This is perhaps the most natural way to recover.
