Water issues have been a key issue in rural development, sustainable agriculture, and the integration of urban and rural areas, etc. 

In 2003, Zhejiang launched the "Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project", in order to improve access to sustainable water supply and sanitation services in selected villages and towns in rural areas of Zhejiang Province. And in 2018, the Project has been upgraded to further ensure the potable water access for rural people in Zhejiang.  

On June 18, the Changshan County took the lead to complete the action plan of improving the quality and quantity of rural drinking water in Zhejiang, thus realizing the goal of "providing the same high-quality drinking water to both urban and rural people". 

In 2019, Changshan County built a water plant called Furong, which solved the problem of water supply for 292,000 local residents by extending the urban water supply network, building a separate water plant for each village, and installing small purification and disinfection equipment. 

"At present, the water supply of the whole county is managed uniformly by Changshan County Water Supply Co., LTD., which has solved many water-related problems, such as 'different water prices in different villages' and 'unstable water quality'," a person in charge of Department of Forestry and Water Resources of Changshan County said.

This livelihood project is also a project to enrich the people. Huanggang Village in Changshan County is a "village for homestay". "Most of the customers leave after meals. They do not stay overnight for the shortage of water here," said Ju Meiwei, the head of a homestay hotel. With Huanggang Village being set up as a local pilot to realize good water supply, the number of customers staying overnight has doubled year-on-year since May.

A person in charge of the Ministry of Water Resources said that the action plan of reaching and raising the standard of quality and quantity of rural water supply of Zhejiang Province fully embodies the concept of people-centered and development of urban-rural integration.
