Firstly do a three-dimensional scan of the face by the mobile phone. Then with data being imported into the automatic program, a geometric shape that perfectly fits the eye socket is to be generated in only 30 seconds. After that, a "face-customized" goggle will be produced by 3D printing technology. The latest achievement of Zhejiang University overcomes the defect of the traditional goggles for they fail to fit the eye socket perfectly, and has been popular with the medical staff who tried wearing them in Hangzhou recently.

"It's automated design technology." Zhou Kun, a professor at the State Key Laboratory of Computer-Aided Design and Computer Graphics of Zhejiang University, said that the program is expert in quick managing the optimization calculation of dozens of parameters, which finally result in precise fitness between the goggles and the face.

Traditional goggles have brought many troubles to medical staff fighting for COVID-19. Customized goggles can effectively solve the functional and comfort problems caused by long-time wearing. Trying on the new goggles, the medical staff claimed that the whole goggle ring fits on the eye socket, thus the pressure on the face is evenly distributed. The indentation will not be obvious even one has worn it for a whole day.

"The maturity and popularization of 3D printing technology enable us to complete the customized production of goggles at a relatively low cost in a very short time. It is even possible to have printed patterns on the surface of goggles. Presently, this achievement has applied for a national invention patent and completed clinical application tests in two hospitals in Hangzhou." Zhou Kun noted that the future of automatic design technology in customizing headwear equipment is promising. Moreover, the application in the design and production of sports glasses, virtual reality or in the development of headwear equipment is on its way.
