The Ministry of Finance said that more than 2.5 million jobs could be cut as a result of the COVID-19, with wages and salaries expected to fall by up to 30%.

Dr. Ariel blocker and Dr. Maarten Van Dongen, co-scientists at Essack and AMR Insight Ambassadors Network, said that they were concerned that inappropriate use of antibiotics in the treatment of COVID-19 could lead to drug resistance.


6. False news! Netcare denies finding COVID-19 in fresh fruit


Since April, a post has claimed that staff at the Umhlanga Hospital had been warned not to eat salads, or to wait for two days before eating fresh fruits and vegetables. Another suggestion is to disinfect agricultural products with boiling water.


In an email to AFP, NetCare denied the claim, calling it "absolutely untrue and fake news."


7. 511 health workers in South Africa tested positive for COVID-19


South Africa's minister of Health Department, Dr. Zweli Mhizer said that 511 health workers were positive for the COVID-19.
