1. Driving license, road tax and WoF to be automatically renewed for 6 months

New Zealand Transport Minister Phil Twyford said on Thursday (on the 9th) that all driving licenses, WoF, and CoF that expire on or after January 1, 2020, and vehicle certificates that expire in April. 10, 2020, will be automatically extended for six months.

"People don't have to worry about being fined for driving for basic purposes, or for holding expired documents as an employee of an essential industry during the lockdown period when the COVID-19 Alert has reached the 4th level," Twyford said.

"We allow necessary repair services to continue, such as repairing broken tires or damaged windshields. In case of any defect, please fix it as soon as possible.

"Drivers still need to be physically fit and able to drive, comply with the relevant restrictions and conditions relating to driving license and comply with all road regulations. Suspension or disqualification of any permit will continue to apply." Twyford said.

2. Ministry of Education's NZ$87 million assistance to support students’ home learning

The Ministry of Education is developing a package plan to ensure that students can continue to study at home when the second semester begins on April 15. The Ministry of Education will distribute paper teaching parcels and electronic equipment to students in school.

About 350 students currently do not have access to the Internet, and the government is exploring the possibility of providing satellite coverage for these families.

New Zealand's Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced that New Zealand would enter into transit transport arrangements with several countries to make it easier for each other's citizens to return home.

We will use rigorous criteria for determining who can transit through New Zealand to ensure the public health and meet New Zealand’s requirements for the 4th level of epidemic alert."

These requirements ask the transit passengers

to remain in the air;

not to enter New Zealand;

To have a maximum of 10 hours of flight;

To have no symptom of COVID-19, have no contact with suspected or confirmed cases, and not to be waiting for test results; and

To be confirmed by the airline that they will be allowed onboard and that their destination countries will allow them to arrive before they board the plane.
