1. This is not the right time! Moody's Downgrades South Africa's credit rating to Junk Level

Moody's Investors Service downgraded   South Africa's credit rating below the investment grade, bringing a lot of junk rating to the country. At present, South Africa is closing the whole country to cope with a confinement measure and to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Moody's said that unreliable electricity supply, continued weak business confidence and investment, and long-standing structural rigidities in the labor market continued to constrain South Africa's economic growth. "As a result, South Africa is entering a period of   sharp economic slowdown worldwide when its economy is becoming increasingly   fragile.”

2. South African Police Fired Rubber Bullets at Shoppers during Closure of the Country; African Countries Strive to Fight the Virus

South African police fired rubber bullets at hundreds of shoppers lining up outside a Johannesburg supermarket. The authority is trying to keep people at home to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

There are 1,187 confirmed cases and one death in South Africa, making it the country with the largest number of confirmed cases on the African continent.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa ordered a 21-day stay-at-home order to the 57 million residents across the country and sent police and troops to enforce the order.

KwaZulu-Natal Province’s labor inspectors, police and officials from the Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) inspected one of the country's largest call centers, CCISouth Africa in Umhlanga, on Monday. Earlier, dozens of disgruntled employees posted on social media that the company had violated the COVID-19 blockade.

EDTEA spokesman Endarbezler Spia said the company had received more than 100 complaints from CCI South Africa’s employees. CCI South Africa is believed to have employed about 9,000 employees in different locations.

4. A friend in need is a friend indeed. Chinese farms in South Africa distribute free food to people in Chinatown

On Wednesday, April 1, South African time, on the sixth day of the country's blockade, the vast number of overseas Chinese and local residents had almost run out of vegetables and grain.

This morning, at the junction of Johannesburg’s Chinatown, there was a truck delivering vegetables. Ten plastic boxes were placed on the ground, which contained many varieties of green leafy vegetables, including spinach, lettuce, leeks, shallots, and water bamboo for passers-by to fetch free of charge.

It is understood that this is a charitable donation made by a local Chinese farm to help the local overseas Chinese eat green leafy vegetables during the city blockade.

5. South Africa will not build "Chinese-style" new hospitals but make use of existing national facilities to fight the epidemic

South Africa will not build new hospitals to cope with the possible increase in the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations as China and other parts of the world do but will make use of existing facilities.

The government has approved several possible new sites to become quarantine facilities, of which about 50 were initially selected by the Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI).

Patricia de Lille, Minister of DPWI, said that more than 50 sites had been chosen on public and private premises to serve as additional isolation sites.

6. South African government will track the location of real-name mobile phone users after March 5

As of Thursday, the South African government has been able to track down any South African mobile phone user back to as early as March 5 to fight COVID-19.

These mobile data will be input into a special database to identify anyone who may have had physical contact with people known to carry the SARS-Cov-2 virus for possible detection and isolation.

There is no need to notify the tracked users, but the judge will get a list of affected persons after the incident so as to make suggestions on privacy protection.

Six weeks after South Africa's national disaster state is declared, the database will be deleted, leaving only general data for future research.

8.Large-scale Evacuation of Villages and Towns in Four Provinces of South Africa to Stop COVID-19 Transmission

The large-scale evacuation plan has entered the late stage and tens of thousands of people from four provinces in South Africa may be relocated.

The entire towns of Western Cape, Gauteng Province, Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal Province will be relocated to safe places to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

This plan aims at evacuating extremely densely populated settlements to prevent infection rates from increasing. In Western Cape Province alone, thousands of residents from two informal settlements in Khayelitsha will be temporarily relocated.

不需要通知被追踪位置的用户,但法官将在事件发生后得到一份受影响人员名单,以便就隐私保护提出建议。

在南非国家灾难状态宣布结束六周后,该数据库将被删除,只留下一般数据供未来研究。
