New York Times journalist Donald McNeil introduces the process of testing the coronavirus in China, from quarantine to cutting off transmission routines and protecting medical resources from breaking down. 


McNeil mentions a measure taken by the Chinese to fight again the disease, which is testing, testing, testing, find the virus.  


The crucial thing about that system is, break the chains of transmission, and also, do what you can to keep the hospitals from getting overwhelmed.


They’re mobilized, like in a war, and it’s fear of the virus that was driving them. They really saw themselves as on the front lines of protecting the rest of China. And the world.


It was nationwide. There was this tremendous sense of, “We’ve got to help Wuhan,” not “Wuhan got us into this.” Other provinces sent 40,000 medical workers, many of whom volunteered.


He summarizes ways of fighting against Covid-19 that can be learned from the Chinese experience.


►Aggressive measures work.


►Be prepared to move medical care online, as well as other services.


►Isolate the infected quickly.


►Having to pay may slow containment.


►Civic spirit can make a difference.
