On the evening of March 16th of Beijing time, Jack Ma updated his Weibo saying that Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation would donate 100,000 masks, 1,000 sets of protective suits, 1,000 protective masks and 20,000 test kits to each of the 54 countries in Africa, cooperate with medical institutions in African countries, and provide online training for clinical treatment of COVID 19 to support epidemic prevention and control in Africa.

Jack Ma said in his Weibo that all 6 million masks, 1.1 million test kits, 60,000 sets of protective clothing, 60,000 protective masks (including necessary backups) and other materials would be sent to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital city. Ethiopian Prime Minister will be responsible for the logistics and distribution of these anti-epidemic materials in Africa.

26 African countries, including Ethiopia, have reported confirmed cases of COVID 19. The continuous spread of the epidemic has posed unprecedented challenges to the weak medical and health system in Africa.

Before that, Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation donated 1 million masks to Japan, South Korea, and Iran respectively, 1.8 million masks and 100,000 test kits to Italy, Spain and other European countries with a severe epidemic condition, and 500,000 test kits and 1 million masks to the United States. These materials are arriving in these countries.

Jack Ma pays special attention to Africa. In 2017, Jack Ma visited Africa for the first time and has since forged an indissoluble bond with the continent. He established the "Jack Ma African Venture Fund" to help young Africans realize their dreams. In November 2019, witnessed by Jack Ma and Ethiopian Prime Minister, the Ethiopian government signed a contract with Alibaba to build eWTP (Electronic World Trade Platform).

北京时间3月16日晚，马云更新个人微博表示，马云公益基金会和阿里巴巴公益基金会将向非洲54国每一个国家捐赠10万个口罩、1000件防护服、1000个防护面罩及2万个检测试剂盒，并将与非洲各国医疗机构合作，提供新冠病毒临床治疗网上培训资料，支援非洲防控疫情。

马云在微博中介绍，所有600万只口罩、110万试剂盒、6万套防护服、6万个防护面罩（含必要数量的备份）以及其他物资将会统一送到埃塞俄比亚首都亚的斯亚贝巴，埃塞俄比亚总理阿比将负责非洲抗疫物资的物流和分发工作。

据了解，埃塞俄比亚等26个非洲国家相继报告新冠肺炎确诊病例，疫情不断扩散对于医疗卫生体系薄弱的非洲带来新的挑战。

此前，马云公益基金会、阿里巴巴公益基金会已分别向日本、韩国、伊朗捐赠100万只口罩,为意大利、西班牙等疫情严重的欧洲国家捐赠180万个口罩和10万份检测试剂，为美国筹到50万份检测试剂盒和100万只口罩，这些物资正在陆续运达各国。

非洲是马云特别关注的地方。2017年，马云第一次造访非洲大陆，从此与非洲结下不解之缘。他出资成立“马云非洲创业基金”，帮助非洲年轻人实现梦想；2019年11月，在马云和埃塞俄比亚总理阿比的见证下，埃塞俄比亚政府与阿里巴巴签约共建eWTP(世界电子贸易平台)。
