China's top coronavirus advisor Zhong Nanshan said, now the problem faced in epidemic prevention and control is imported cases from overseas. The following 28-hour experience of Yao Yao (an assumed name), a Chinese student, returning from Italy to China has been dubbed by internet users as "a case from the textbook".

On March 10th, the plane which Yao Yao took from Italy landed in Shenzhen. Viewed from the air tickets bought by her, her returning trip to China was really winding.

She boarded the plane at 6 am on March 9th of Italy time. She had traveled for nearly 30 hours on the way, which was nearly three times that needed in daily time. From Rome to Abu Dhabi to Beijing and then to Shenzhen, she transferred from flight to flight all the way without daring to eat and drink, or even take off her facial mask until she was sent to the isolation point. When she came off the plane in Shenzhen, she was so hungry that her legs kept shaking. The staff brought food and water to her.

After a series of examinations, she was soon picked to the hotel for isolation. Previously Yao Yao lived alone in Italy. The original intention for her to come back was that she was afraid to live alone abroad. Earlier in Italy, several patients had died before being confirmed as infected by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

It’s noteworthy that after the epidemic, Yao Yao had finished self-isolation for 20 days in Italy before she set off for the motherland. Before she came back, she had declared her information via all possible channels. The moment she came off the plane, she reported her information to the airport staff immediately. She summarized her good luck all the way and said that once she decided to come back, she would declare all the required information. Now Yao Yao was isolated in the hotel and her nucleic acid test result was negative. On the night she boarded the plane carrying her back to China, Italy announced "national lockdown". On the afternoon of March 17th, her journey once reached the second spot in the most searched hashtags of Weibo.

Her actions have also won numerous likes from netizens

When will the epidemic end? How should each country strengthen epidemic prevention and control? And should overseas Chinese students come back to China?

Zhang Wenhong, director of the department of infectious diseases with Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, said, "Above all, you have to consider two questions. First, how long will the epidemic last? Do you decide not to go back after you return to China? If the epidemic lasts for half a year? Will you give up your study or work? Second, if you choose to stay abroad, what should you do?”

Zhang suggested taking effective personal protection measures, as this disease can really be prevented. Social distancing, washing hands, wearing facial masks, these three measures are all necessary.
