A flying start for Wenzhou’s foreign trade

       Wenzhou’s foreign trade got off to a flying start in the first month this year. Wenzhou Customs told that Wenzhou’s total volume of import and export amounted to 17.5 billion yuan in January, an increase of 27.9% over the same period last year. Among them, the export reached 15.82 billion yuan, with the growth rate of 38% ranking fourth in the province and being 9.5% higher than the average provincial growth rate.

  From the point of the exported products, the export of mechanical equipment, electrical appliances and electronic products, and the instrumentationincreased by 61.5%, 32.6%, and 36%, respectively. Labor-intensive products showed a great momentum in growth. The export of the seven categories of labor-intensive products totaled 6.71 billion yuan, an increase of 32%, accounting for 42.4% of Wenzhou’s total export value over the same period. Meanwhile, the export of high-tech products, though small in proportion,stood at 430 million yuan, an increase of 46.8%.

  In terms of the export destinations, Wenzhou’s export to the United States grew rapidly in January, reaching 2.44 billion yuan, an increase of 34.4%. The export of traditional labor-intensive products to the U.S. increased by 38.7%, 6.7% higher than the growth rate of the export of labor-intensive products in Wenzhou over the same period. The export of mechanical and electrical products to the U.S. increased by 31.2%, 11.9% lower than the average growth rate in Wenzhou over the same period. Among the export of the mechanical and electrical products, that of auto parts to the U.S. declined by 21.1%, 35.7% lower than the average growth rate of Wenzhou in this respect.

  Since the launch of Wenzhou (Lucheng) Market Procurement Trade Mode Pilot in November last year, more and more enterprises exported their products through the trade mode. In January, commodities worth 330 million yuan were exported by 27 enterprises via Wenzhou Market Procurement Trade Mode, most of which were mechanical and electrical products and labor-intensive products. The export of mechanical and electrical products and of labor-intensive products reached 130 million yuan and 120 million yuan respectively, accounting for 39.1% and 36.9% of the total export value achieved by Wenzhou’s market procurement trade mode in the same period.
