The Hehe Culture Tokyo Exchange and a Taizhou promotion conference were held in Tokyo from Sept 6 to 8, presenting its cultural heritage and urban image of Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province through performances, exhibitions, and exchanges.
During the 2025 China Festival on Sept 6 and 7, Taizhou set up a dedicated booth showcasing more than 100 local products. A cultural delegation staged performances inspired by the theme "mountain, sea, and water city", featuring traditional instruments such as erhu, a two-stringed bowed musical instrument. The music drew over a thousand Tokyo residents to stop and listen.
The promotion conference took place at Hatoyama Hall, a historic venue in Tokyo, on Sept 8. Representatives from Taizhou introduced the city's economy, society, and cultural traditions, highlighting the origins and history of Hehe culture. A city video and the documentary Hehe Zhi Yuan (Origin of Hehe) presented Taizhou's ecological landscape and cultural background in a systematic way.
Guests at the event experienced Taizhou's unique urban appeal and exchanged views on the theme "Discover the Beauty of Hehe". Scholars from both China and Japan discussed philosophical links between Hehe and Japanese thought, generating lively discussions. Participants reached a consensus on the cultural value of Hehe and expressed interest in expanding future exchanges and cooperation.
