The animated short film The Legend of Fangfeng, which was produced in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province and features artificial intelligence generated content, or AIGC, has grabbed attention overseas.
The film recently secured the silver award in the Art Design category at the 2025 UK International Art and Design Competition.
The groundbreaking achievement marked the first time that the Fangfeng culture, a national-level intangible cultural heritage of Deqing county in Huzhou, has been spotlighted on the international award stage through a unique fusion of AI technology and animation art.
The film, intertwining ancient folklore with contemporary narratives, follows Fangfeng, a legendary figure who courageously battled dragons and tamed floods with extraordinary strength and unwavering spirit. The Fangfeng legacy transcends eras, offering encouragement and fortitude to modern audiences facing difficulties.

To authentically portray the local Fangfeng culture, the film incorporates unique elements and scenes of Deqing county such as the Deqing Dam, the commemoration ceremony for Fangfeng, and even smoked bean tea.
"In an era where artificial intelligence reshapes cultural communication forms, we hope that this work serves as a starting point to explore the infinite possibilities of integrating intangible cultural heritage with AIGC," said a representative from the Deqing county cultural, radio, television and tourism bureau.
