Zhejiang waxberry in season, have you tried it?

The "June Waxberry Red" series of Zhejiang local specialty events and the Cixi Waxberry Season were launched in Cixi on June 4. Waxberries from Cixi, Yuyao, Ouhai, Shangyu, Lanxi, Xianju and Qingtian will form a cultural and tourism market to welcome the waxberry season. Waxberry is the most representative characteristic agricultural product in Zhejiang, with nine waxberry products in the province having obtained National Geographical Indication certification for agricultural products.

According to staff from the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the total waxberry output in the province is expected to reach 740,000 tons this year. Among the main production areas, Taizhou will produce 261,000 tons, Ningbo 134,000 tons, and Wenzhou 129,000 tons. In terms of varieties, 'Dongkui' waxberry accounts for about 400,000 tons (55 percent), while 'Biqizhong' waxberry accounts for 240,000 tons (32 percent). The estimated output value of fresh waxberries is about 6.3 billion yuan.
