The National Modern Agricultural Industrial Park in Xiuzhou district, Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, has recently achieved significant milestones since its approval in May 2024.

Spanning 344 square kilometers across four towns, the park focuses on rice and freshwater aquaculture, with a total investment of 2.1 billion yuan ($292 million) and 33 key projects underway. In Xincheng town, Jiaxing, construction is progressing on the Yangtze River Delta Rice Variety Exhibition Base, with an area of 13.33 hectares, the base will exhibit 140 new rice varieties after construction.

"This will provide local farmers with cutting-edge options and strengthen the value chain of seed industry," said Lou Chenhui, an official from Xincheng town. The town plans to attract more agribusinesses to create a comprehensive rice industry cluster.

Meanwhile, the Xiuzhou Blue City Modern Fisheries Technology Park in Youchegang town, Jiaxing, exemplifies innovation in aquaculture. As a key project of national agricultural park, the facility produces 20 million largemouth bass fry annually with near-zero water waste and no antibiotics through using recirculating water systems.

"Our technology allows fry to mature between one to three months faster than traditional methods," said Lu Lei, the technical supervisor of the project. The park's second phase will further boost output by expanding into shrimping.

The park's integrated approach has driven a 9 percent increase in agricultural output last year, benefiting 34,000 households with per capita incomes 31 percent above the regional average. Moving forward, the park aims to solidify its role as a leader in sustainable farming and rural vitalization.
