The Pet Products Industry Commodity Standards Institutional Opening Up Achievements Conference was held in Yiwu county-level city, Jinhua, Zhejiang province, on May 23, releasing the province's first Commodity Standard System of Pet Products for Domestic and Foreign Trade (2025) and the Chinese and English Versions of Five Commodity Group Standards for Pet Products.

As a burgeoning industry, Yiwu's pet product sector has developed a centralized purchasing center since 2015, spanning 8,000 square meters. Generating annual sales of 2 billion yuan ($278.83 million) — 10 percent of China's pet product exports, it supplies pet apparel, leashes, toys, and many other products to Europe, South America, and Southeast Asia.

However, inconsistent quality and insufficient standards hindered market growth. To address this, the Yiwu Small Commodities Standard Innovation Association has collaborated with five leading enterprises to develop the standards for pet waterers, cat climbers, collars, litter, and grooming combs.

The Commodity Standard System of Pet Products for Domestic and Foreign Trade (2025) is categorized into domestic, overseas, and international subsystems. The domestic framework classifies standards by pet types, while overseas standards align with regions and the international subsystem is divided into electronic appliances and other standards.

The event also hosted the appointment of two foreign experts from Colombia and Chile for commodity standards in the pet product sector.

To date, Yiwu has formulated 18 bilingual group standards for pet goods, strengthening quality control and supporting the industry's high-quality global expansion.
